Strength #1: Leadership Training & Development
Teikyo Post is known for its Leadership Development. Our Campus Activities Team (known as the Programming Board until 2004) has won numerous national awards at the NACA National conferences in the past ten years. Mandatory each year are an SGA Retreat and a Campus Activities Team Retreat. Led by our Director of Student Activities, Mary Alice Ozechoski, these events teach leadership by action and strategy to each group's members through lecture, physical activities and trust-building exercises. Students are taught to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses as well as those of others for the benefit of the student body.
Strength #2: Web & Electronic Resources
2003 and 2004 marked the first year TPU SGA had a web site of its own. Constant pressure on the administration to keep our section of the school's homepage current led us to this state. Now, the University's website sends visitors directly to our website instead of their section. SGA and several key departments on campus led an initiative to increase the student usage of "teikyopost.edu" email addresses in 2003-2004. SGA"s part was requiring that all SGA members have and regularly use their addresses.
Strength #3: Making SG Fun
The TPU Student Government structure is defined in its Constitution. Aside from specific voting circumstances, our processes are "loosely" defined in Robert's Rules of Order. "Loosely" becuse effeictiveness at TPU SGA meetings is directly related to the Executive Board's ability to understand the dynamics of the current Senate and work with it. SGA's are different from year to year and our structure and traditions allow us to be the best fit for the people involved.
