Who we are and why
Why does NCC have a food pantry? Food insecurity has increasingly become an issue on college and university campuses across the country with some data showing 39-59% of college students experiencing food insecurity. Research has shown that the rates of food-insecure community college students exceed the national average which has a negative effect on student GPA, levels of energy, and concentration. Obtaining an adequate food supply is often a major component of the financial stress that students bear. And while there are community resources available, it may be difficult to access them due to transportation or scheduling. In addition, sometimes community food resources are not able to accommodate students based on their eligibility guidelines.
How does it work?
Students are allowed to self-refer, or may be referred by campus departments. Students must present their Student ID or other proof that they are a current, registered NCC student in order to receive food. Students in need are welcome to visit The Pantry twice per month and receive a total of 20 items per month. Students are encouraged to bring their own grocery bag or to reuse the bag they are given upon their first visit to the pantry.

Will I need to prove I'm eligible?
The Pantry @NCC does not require any documentation of need. We operate on the honor system. Registered students will be asked to fill out a brief membership form with basic information, but it is not necessary to prove eligibility. The membership form provides us with valuable data which will enhance our ability to attract support for the Pantry.
What are the hours?
The Pantry schedule changes based on the academic calendar and availability of volunteers. Like our Facebook page and see current hours and information.
