  • Is it common for the student newspaper to charge SG for election coverage?

There has been something I was wondering for quite some time about student newspapers and SGA's relationships on most campuses. UD's student newspaper, Flyer News, is the only student run paper on our campus and receives money from the student activity fee, just as SGA does. From my experience, whenever SGA has asked Flyer News to run a story or simply just print a timeline outlining the elections cycle for SGA, they consider it 'advertising,' and thus would like to receive more student money to inform students about their elections. I was just wondering if this was common practices at most institutions, or if at other universities, the students were informed about elections without their student newspaper charging student government. I am interested to hear your thoughts.
