ASGA Represented at Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation Awards

ASGA was represented by SGA President Chris Harris of Southern Arkansas University at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation's 2011 GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program awards ceremony and dinner on Saturday, July 30 at the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.

According to the Reagan Foundation, "The Program honors students who exemplify the foremost characteristics modeled by our nation’s 40th President: leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship."

"The students were talented and will make great leaders," Harris says. "I talked to almost all of them at least three or four times about ASGA and what we can offer them on their campuses. The foundation loved having a representative of ASGA there and said they want to work with ASGA again."

Harris, a senior, is SGA president at SAU and has served on the Student Activities Board and the Residence Hall Association. He was named 2010-11 "Student Leader of the Year" at SAU.

ASGA Executive Director Butch Oxendine says the association often receives invitiations like the Reagan event and tries to include ASGA member institutions. "It's a great opportunity to get the word out about ASGA," Oxendine says. "And also to give our members a chance to participate in some exciting programs like the Ronald Reagan Scholarship Program."
