  • Egal: Pads on a Roll

In 2019, Egal founder Tom Devlin was looking over his wife's shoulder reading an article she had written for the Boston Globe on period equity. Stephanie Ebbert was covering women's issues, and her article highlighted local and national efforts to get period products in public restrooms. When she told him that activists thought pads should be as common as toilet paper, a light went off.

A 30-year veteran of product development, Tom was working with absorbent materials in roll form at the time. He clearly saw that if pads were to be comparable to toilet paper, then they should be manufactured like toilet paper, and he knew how to do it.

Though the idea seems obvious now, few people at the time imagined pads in bulk form. After patenting the idea, Tom asked his colleague Penelope Finnie, creator of ‘Ask Jeeves' with years of experience in brand building and fundraising, to lead the new company.

Egal means equal. We think period parity is a problem we can all solve. Egal is women and men, wives and husbands, daughters and sons working together to achieve equality in the public restroom.

    Higher Education Institutions
Institutions of higher learning have a diversity of organizations and practices within the overall structure. Handling all the administrative tasks to meet the needs of all groups within your institution can be burdensome and resource-intensive. This can detract from efforts to ensure student success and increase retention, and present obstacles to effective benefits and pension administration.

Morneau Shepell services are specifically designed to help your institution deliver effective, compelling employee assistance, wellness, workplace learning, responsible gambling, benefits and pension administration services to faculty and staff. We also provide unique, supportive services to international and study abroad students that complement existing on-campus mental health programs and services. In addition, we offer flexible, innovative retirement, health, and benefits administration solutions that will help you improve the experience for faculty and staff.

    Student Support Programs
International and study abroad students face many cultural, physical, and mental health challenges as they pursue international education. Our Student Support Programs (SSP) will integrate with your existing campus programs and enable your institution to help students achieve success, health, and retention. By matching your students with support in their own, native language and culture, our services focus on those students who are often reluctant to reach out for assistance.
