What is the structure of ASGA? Is it a democratic organization?
ASGA is a membership organization. Any SG at any American college or university is eligible to join. Being a member gives you immediate access to all of ASGA’s knowledge, information, contacts, and resources.
The leaders of ASGA, however, are not democractically elected. ASGA's leaders are full-time professionals.
ASGA does constantly conduct research on SG-related trends and news. ASGA's leadership constantly keeps in touch with the nation's most knowledgable SG experts-- former SG leaders, current SG advisors, and others in student affairs.
Additionally, ASGA does have an "Advisory Council" made up of super-excited members who want to contribute and offer feedback about how to make the organiation more useful to fellow members.
ASGA also has an panel of some of the nation's greatest Student Government experts. These experts provide their services and help our members with specific questions.
ASGA's conference presenters also experts on Student Government issues and problems.
ASGA's MISSION STATEMENT:
The American Student Government Association will provide all Student Government leaders and advisors nationwide with networking, research, and information resources and will teach them how to become more effective, ethical, and influential leaders on their campuses. ASGA also will promote the advancement of SGs, conduct research as the nation’s only “SG Think Tank,” and advocate the importance of having a vibrant, autonomous Student Government organization at every institution in America.
