  5. New York Times Knowledge Network College Readership Program
Summary: The New York Times College Readership ProgramThe New York Times College Readership Program is a pre-eminent resource for colleges, universities and community colleges nationwide. It is a comprehensive program that opens up an array of content and special services from The New York Times. It is also highly flexible, working to custom-design programs that: provide newspapers at a discounted rate; supports faculty in developing active learning strategies that promote student engagement; and sponsor events and speakers programs that bring current issues to life.

The program is highly flexible and effective in individual courses or departments, across disciplines, in first-year programs, honors programs, faculty programs, senior capstone courses or throughout the campus. We have found our readership program to be supported by many Student Governments as well as faculty and administrators because of the depth and breadth of reporting found in The New York Times and the relevancy it provides for students.

The Times is offered to students and faculty at reduced rates, Monday through Fridays or on a daily (seven days a week) basis. Our experience working with SG's has included making large group presentations, and help with funding and distribution issues. Newspapers can be available in residence halls, student centers, academic buildings and at off-campus facilities. The program can provide only The New York Times or can be designed to include other newspapers, including your student paper.

For more information about The New York Times College Readership Program, please e-mail us at knowledgenetwork@nytimes.com.

  13. Washington Times National Weekly Edition
Summary: The Washington Times was established in 1982, one year after The Washington Star ceased publication. At a time when the new Reagan administration was finding its way in an often hostile capital city, The Times quickly established itself as an independent and influential voice that was willing to break the stories that the dominant Washington Post was not.

By its second year of publication, the Associated Press listed The Times as the third most widely-quoted newspaper in the nation. President Reagan let it be known that The Washington Times was the first newspaper he read every morning. The Times was must reading for his successors as well, including former President Clinton.

Now in its 27th year of publication, The Times has won hundreds of awards and has seen its circulation increase year after year at a time when the circulations of virtually all other major newspapers across the land are in decline. Since beginning publication in June 1994, the National Weekly Edition of The Times has been growing steadily and expects to reach 100,000 paid subscription level by year's end.
